What is GEM

Outline of GEM

Gakushuin University Research Institute for Economics and Management (GEM) was founded as an affiliated facility of the Faculty of Economics in 1985. While research activities are led mostly by full-time staff in the Faculty of Economics, joint research with researchers from outside the university is also often conducted. GEM promotes exchange with domestic and international research institutes as well as researchers, enhancing research activities as a point of intersection between academia and the business world or government. GEM also invites domestic and international researchers as visiting fellows. Research findings are published in periodicals, and GEM holds many seminars and international conferences in an effort to return research results to society.

As we have moved into a new century, drastic reform is required in the management of both the economy and business in Japan. GEM continues to develop into a research centre open to the outside world, and aims to respond to society's demands by making the Institute even more globalized, practical and inter-disciplinary.
