Department of
Management
An understanding of corporate and public-sector "management" is essential for understanding today's economic world. Management science is the study of management in a variety of organizations. The goal of the Department of Management is to impart to its students the technical theory of management science along with a well-rounded pragmatic ability to run an organization smoothly, adopt the right policies and strike a balance with individuals and society at large. Students undertake a wide-ranging study of organizational administration, strategy, human resources, marketing, accounting, information systems and other management-related areas. The curriculum has been devised to sharpen problem-solving ability with a focus on contemporary issues. Courses on subjects such as "computers" and "business and the global society" are provided to develop students' ability to cope with the increasingly global and information-oriented society we live in. Many classes in the department are small. The first-year "Introduction to Management Lecture" divides the students into small sections and provides instruction on the fundamentals of the subject and how best to study it. Later-year specialized courses are also often divided into small sections. The second, third, and fourth years emphasize learning in small seminars that promote close interaction with professors and classmates.
