Modern Chinese History

I specialize in modern Chinese history and I have three main research topics. The first is to examine commercial documentation left in farming villages and reconstruct the history of southwest China, including Yunnan and Guizhou, as well as the history of minority groups, such as the Miao people. The second is to track the development of popular religions and Christianity to study the role of religion in modern China. Lastly, the third is to investigate the relationship between modern China and Southeast Asia, in particular Vietnam, with a focus on the movement of people and popular religions.
