International Exchanges

Aims

In 2019, Gakushuin Primary School started conducting exchanges with schools in the UK and Australia.
In addition to promoting cross-cultural understanding and English-language skills, these exchanges aim to help students cultivate the qualities needed to contribute to international society, by broadening their minds and developing bold creativity.

State of exchanges

Cheltenham College Preparatory School (Cheltenham Prep) in England is a traditional school founded in 1841 that also serves as a host school for overseas study programs for Gakushuin’s students. A total of 20 Grade-6 Gakushuin Primary School students attend classes for three days at Cheltenham Prep while staying with local host families.

Methodist Ladies's College(MLC) in Melbourne, Australia is a sister school of Gakushuin Girls' Senior High School. Gakushuin Primary School has conducted exchanges with MLC since 2019. A total of 16 fifth and sixth grade Gakushuin students interacting with MLC students by joining classes, attending welcome ceremonies, and participating in various subjects, club activities, and tea ceremonies. Exchanges are also held via online video calls.

Each year, several male and female senior high school-level international students from Gakushuin Boys’ High School and Gakushuin Girls’ High School visit the Primary School to interact with the students during classes and breaks.
