Life Studies

Goal of Life Studies

  1.  To cultivate attitudes that encourage students to reflect on themselves and their lives, so that they can help to create a better life.

Points of focus

  • To facilitate the learning of students through activities and experiences such as seeing, listening, touching, creating, searching, nurturing, and playing.
  • To provide students with opportunities for direct contact with the people, society, and nature that surround them.

Engaging with the world using all five senses

Gakushuin is blessed with the natural environment of the school in Yotsuya; students stroll around the school grounds, Kinkoen Garden, nearby embankments, and parks to fully experience the four seasons, using all five senses to perceive water, wind, earth, sound, and light directly. It is important for children to become familiar with nature through physical contact.

Growth through interpersonal relationships

Through exploration at school, research work at home, and visits to parks and train stations, students come to realize that their lives and growth are supported by many people around them. In the “Children’s Square” event in which Grade 2 students welcome those in Grade 1, students have the opportunity to learn and practice their social skills and grow as a good person.
