History
The timeline of Gakushuin Primary School's long history, dates back to 1847, when It was founded as an educational institution in Kyoto for the children of the Royal Family and nobility.
Gakushuin is established in Kyoto as a school for the children of Japan's imperial nobility during the last days of the Tokugawa shogunate.

On October 17, Gakushuin is re-established in Nishiki-cho, Kanda, Tokyo, as a school for Japan's aristocracy.


Gakushuin becomes a state school under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Imperial Household.
The Peeresses' School is opened in Owari-cho, Yotsuya,Tokyo (in front of today's State Guest House) after courses for girls are discontinued.
Gakushuin is relocated from Toranomon to Yotsuya (to the site of the Peeresses' School).
School building of Gakushuin Primary School is newly built at the school's present location in Yotsuya.
The elementary school course of Gakushuin is renamed the Primary School.

The school magazine Kozakura is published for the first time.
A ceremony is held to celebrate the opening of the new school building (now the main building).

Grade 4 and 6 students are evacuated to Numazu; Grade 3 and 5 students are evacuated to Nikko.

The Memorial and Shunpukan buildings of the primary school burn down as a result of the war; classes are resumed in November at the Yotsuya school building.
Gakushuin and Gakushuin Girls' School are integrated to form a new private school, “Gakushuin Foundation.”
The whole of Gakushuin Primary School becomes co-educational, with 18 classes (three classes per each of the grades “East,” “Middle,” and “West”).
Ceremony to mark the 85th anniversary of the school's founding is held.
100th anniversary of the school's founding (counting from 1877).

New gymnasium and swimming pool are completed.

Gathering is held to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Gakushuin's founding in Kyoto.
Ceremony to mark the 125th anniversary of the school's founding is held.
Temporary school building is constructed, and work starts on construction of a new classroom building (West Bldg.).
Construction of a new classroom building (West Bldg.) is completed in November; the completion ceremony is held on December 16.

Grades 1, 3, and 5 are divided into four classes per grade (East, West, South, and North).
All grades are divided into four classes (East, West, South, and North).
Ceremony to mark the 140th anniversary of the school's founding is held (Gakushuin Primary School).
