Cherishing the Spirit of Building Respect for Oneself and Their Peers to Forge a Better Future

Gakushuin Primary School has nurtured the foundation for rich human relationships by valuing "self-respect and mutual respect" and "honesty and compassion." It is often said that "Gakushuin graduates have a reputation for being generous and open-minded."

Today, the world is in a state of turmoil, and peace is under threat. The Gakushuin school song contains the words, "Govern the world with your vision" and "Let truth and peace shine forever." The primary school song, "Sakura no Kisho" (the Cherry Blossom Crests), contains the words, "the symbols of peace" and "Blooming in the skies of the world."

After World War II, Chancellor Yoshishige Abe repeatedly emphasized the importance of "self-respect and mutual respect" and "honesty and compassion" to the children. Now, more than ever, the spirit of "self-respect and mutual respect"—humbly listening to differing opinions and deepening and elevating one's own thinking—is essential.

The Primary School, while cherishing this spirit, our Primary School conducts a wide range of educational activities to cultivate rich humanity and social awareness. The educational goal of the Primary School is to nurture children who can discern truth and form their own ideas. In an age of uncertainty, focusing on what is essential and acting with well-informed ideas enables us to create a better society and shape our own futures.

To develop these qualities and abilities, we have adopted a "specialized subject system" from the lower grades. Across all subjects, emphasis is placed on mastering fundamental skills, being exposed to authentic experiences, learning collaboratively and expressing ideas. In addition, the curriculum focuses on traditional Japanese culture, experiential learning, and international exchange.

While respecting the traditions and school spirit cultivated over a long history, we continually look to the future, striving to enrich our educational content and learning environment. At Gakushuin Primary School, we are committed to developing a well-balanced education that cultivates intellect, emotion, will, and physical development.

To develop people with “Honesty and Consideration.”,
we are working on
