What do I study and how?

This course covers four main fields: (1) performing arts; (2) film art; (3) manga/animation arts; (4) gender culture theory. While studying basic theories, students of this course choose a specific research option from four fields and then go on to write a Master's or Doctoral dissertation.

In the fields of (1) performing arts, (2) film art, and (3) manga/animation arts, there are two types of classes: "seminars" and "critical research." In the seminars, students acquire a basic, sound knowledge of the specialist field, and in critical research classes, students develop the ability to apply that knowledge and learn critiquing skills. In addition to these four areas, there is also a "Lessons in the Theory of Representing Cultural Institutions" class, in which students research the institutional framework of corporeal representation. Perspectives from the field will allow students to gain a broader, more specific perspective on corporeal representation culture. img20130212-2.jpg Perspectives from the field will allow students to gain a broader, more specific perspective on corporeal representation culture.
