─Early Modern Japanese History

I am conducting research on the Edo period. The modern period starts from the Meiji period, but in the Edo period preceding it, Japan had a unique individuality, as it had been a closed country for more than 200 years with no interaction with Western countries. My research topic is to analyze the existence of the emperor and religions (Buddhism, Shintoism, Shugendo, Onmyodo, etc.) in the Edo period, which are the origin of the characteristics of today’s Japan.
